Preface for The U.S. - China Artists Exhibition
On this occasion celebrating the 5th anniversary of American Trade
Development Council and the grand opening of the U.S.-China Artists Online
Exhibition, I share my heartfelt thanks to all the artists participating in
this exhibition and my sincere wishes for their exquisite works presented
here be enjoyed by the viewers. I also express my respect to ATDC’s
organizers: the chairman and the director-general and amthankful for their
creative organization of this event. In addition, I express my sincere
thanks to several Congress members for their sharing of congratulations for
this exhibition, and, finally, my sincere gratitude to American art
consultants Dr. Rich Melheim and Rev. Jim Mericle, for their hard work to
help make this exhibition successfully organized.
In this online art exhibition celebrating the 5th anniversary of ATDC, many
kinds of artworks are displayed , such as oil painting, acrylic, watercolor,
serigraph, digital painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Artists
participating in this exhibition are from Los Angeles, New York, Houston,
Wisconsin, Minnesota, Louisiana and beyond. In particular, there is a group
of artists from Santa Fe, known as the "hometown of art," located in New
Mexico in the southwest of the United States. like the southwest art school
in China. It is the second largest artist gathering place in the United
States after New York City. Years ago, I drove from Minnesota to Santa Fe
for an “art pilgrimage.” I am so happy to have this opportunity to introduce
artists from Santa Fe to Chinese audiences today. I offer a special thanks
to Mr. Troy L.Buchleiter, director of Santa Fe’s New Concept Gallery, for
his kind introduction to these artists.
The exhibition also includes works by an indigenous Native American artist,
a Black artist, Asian-American artists and Hispanic and Latino American
artists, a female painter who is the direct descendant of King Edward III
and inherited artistic cells of 19th century famous fine artist Sir Joshua
Reynolds. All artists participating in the exhibition have different skin
tones reflecting American multi-ethnic cultural diversity and inclusiveness
as the rich colors on the palette.
Among the artists, some of their works are collected by major museums, some
by personal collectors, some are widely collected internationally, and some
have deep influences in Hollywood. Their works are promoted and introduced
by the major mainstream media. It is our honor to have each of them as part
of the exhibition!
The origin of art comes from the transcendence of the limited material
world. Art is an angel, and art is a bridge. Under the pandemic, under the
current situation of “Stop Asian Hate,” under the political ice between
China and the United States, artists living in the same global village
embrace the common ideal of artistic pursuit, cross all artificial obstacles
and build bridges of communication with art.
Fifty years ago, a small table tennis was an icebreaker to open up exchanges
between American and Chinese people; today, we look forward to art
broadening that exchange.
Thank you!
